"Bye Mama! I'm off on holiday!"

"Bye Mama! I'm off on holiday!"

These are the words that greet me yesterday morning when I appear back downstairs after getting dressed. And this is the little person...

"What are you doing?" I ask

"Waiting for the train," she looks at me as though I'm daft. How could I ask such a stupid question?

"Ich gehe in Urblaub" (yes... she did say "Urblaub" - that's for the amusement of the german speakers out there!)

She sits there for a couple of minutes, sorting her babies out, checking her luggage repeatedly, until finally a cry...

"Here's the train!"

And that was our morning sorted. We pushed their Tripp-Trapps together and they boarded their train, and spent the next 45 minutes playing happily. Heidi enjoying dropping her Baby on the floor repeatedly and then calling for it, and Ava gazed out the window (obviously enjoying the train's view) and showing Baby Annabel all the different sights there were to see.

Finally they arrived at their holiday destination, "London", and Ava took herself off to their playhouse for a nice relaxing holiday, and Heidi headed off to bed for her morning nap!

It was so lovely to see Ava using her imagination with very little other than a couple of chairs and a toy suitcase. There is something wonderful about children's imaginations. I think these days we often give them too much, we write their role-play for them, and don't give them the space to imagine.

How wonderful to be able to turn a couple of chairs into anything you want!

I'm so looking forward to these "make-believe" years!

  8. Fantastic example of basic fun childhood play! I bet they enjoyed it just as much, if not more than they do when playing with toys.
