Saturday Night Ritual...

Saturday nights were always something special growing up. There was the ritual bath, hair wash, hair dry, nails cut in front of Blind Date or Challenge Anneka,  there was the "Saturday dinner", a ritual we still keep up with our girls which involves a dinner straight out of the freezer and into the oven (and the only night we were allowed to eat it in front of the television!) And then sometimes there was the laying out of the Sunday best. The "something special" outfit we always whipped out for Church.

I love picking out my girlies clothes on a Saturday night. Its a funny one really... most of us rock up to church on a Sunday morning in our jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of flip flops. The whole "Sunday best" thing is perhaps dying out. But I still think there's something lovely about dressing my girlies up on a Sunday... pulling out the frills and the pretties and helping them realise there is something a little bit special about a Sunday.

This weekend, after the torrential rain on Saturday morning, it was lovely to pull out the summer dresses ready for a lovely sunny day on Sunday!

Pure bliss!

What are your Saturday night rituals?

  1. Lovely photos! I always take pleasure in getting my daughter's clothes out too (although usually she prefers to get them herself now she's 8).

  2. Lovely photos, the colour of the cardigan is gorgeous :) We had a Saturday evening ritual too, it was one of the only times we were all together as a family, as my Dad worked away. We have tried to do a similar thing; Meg and Eli are allowed to stay up a bit later and we'll have an easy dinner and then play games or watch a film or something similar :)

  6. This is a lovely post and I think it is special that you pick out a Sunday best outfit, it's a shame that it is dying out because it is nice to put a bit of effort in. I love to dress my girls up, even today they are wearing matching dresses even though we are only went to the garden centre! They have some lovely clothes so it seems a shame not to use them lots. x

  10. I think when I wore school uniform I just wanted to be casual on a Sunday, then when I was at uni it was a chance to dress up so we all brought out the pretties, and then with work it went back to casual - now I just aim for clean, but the girls are usually dressed up; they have so many pretty things it would be a shame not to use them (even if they do later get stripped before eating Sunday lunch!!)
