Nuggets of gold...

I have had a wonderful summer, immersing myself in books! I have used the local library (and still have a few books to go), I have discovered new authors, and have enjoyed fiction and non-fiction alike...

There is something wonderful about immersing yourself into another world. It IS escapism... The opportunity to enter a different realm for a bit, forget about your own cares and concerns, but it is also a place for gleaning wisdom and soaking up truths.

I have read a whole mixture of books this year, but almost every one of them has given me a little gem to ponder and hold on to...

What do you think? I figured I could write a blog post on almost every one of these quotes (I might just have to do that!) They have given me good food for thought these past few weeks!  Read them thought once... even twice, and soak them up! Enjoy these little nuggets of gold I discovered on my journey through their pages and let me know if any of them resonate with you, or challenge you particularly! I'm keen to hear your thoughts!

So grab a cuppa and soak them up slowly...

Do you agree with them?!

"She was struck by the simple truth that sometimes the most ordinary things could be made extraordinary... Simply by doing them with the right people.Nicholas Sparks, The Lucky One

"You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God’s fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts.” ~C.H. Spurgeon

"I became so consumed by what I didn't have, that I forgot all about what I do have" ~ Karen Witemeyer, Short Straw Bride

"True faith means holding nothing back. It means putting every hope in God's fidelity to his promises" ~ Francis Chan, Crazy Love

"She'd let herself get distracted by vanity and worry - two of the most worthless pursuits known to womankind" ~ Karen Witemeyer, Full Steam Ahead

"We need to stop giving people excuses not to believe in God. You've probably heard the expression, "I believe in God, just not in organised religion.' I don't think people would say that if the church truly lived like we are called to live." ~ Francis Chan, Crazy Love.

"If you could have heaven, with no sickness, and with all the friends you ever had on earth, and all the food you ever liked, and all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauties you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, and no human contact, or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with heaven, if Christ was not there?" ~ John Piper, God is the Gospel

"I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.” ~ Roald Dahl

I find it sad that so many people are obsessed with their looks, often to the detrimentof everything else.
Love that Roald Dahl quote at the end :-)
