Dear Annika - you're one!

Dear little Annika,

It is SUCH a gift to be writing this birthday letter. I thought my baby days were long behind me... but the Lord knew our (not so little!) family wasn't complete without you. What a wonderful journey this has been. From the moment we found out you were on your way, we have cherished every moment. You are truly loved... I'm not sure there's ever been such a doted on baby. Your big siblings are all besotted and would do anything for you. You reward them well - with funny faces, giddy giggles and beaming toothy grins. It is a joy to have you as part of our family, and it is a privilege to find myself taking this Mama ride for the fifth time round.

Today we celebrated with a trip to see the fish with your little cousin, lunch with Bestemor who came all the way from Norway for your birthday, a big birthday dinner with all your siblings, presents and your first taste of cake...

It went down a treat!

You are a joy Annika - you have been a happy and contented little soul since the moment you were born. You enjoy slow, calm days with Mama and then the chaos of the evenings with your siblings who you adore. It's one of my favourite things to see you light up and reach those chubby little arms out when one of them gets home from school.

Your favourite thing in the world is music - and you can already sing in tune!! I think the video footage I have of you singing arpeggios in your sleep when you were five weeks old will be cherished forever, and whenever the big kids are belting out a tune, you love to join in - and hit the right note! Whenever you are sad or tired, music consoles you like nothing else. I can already see another little musician joining our ranks - I'm so excited to find out which direction you go with it!

And so Annika B, we wish you the happiest of first birthdays. We cannot wait to see what this next year brings, and our prayer is that as you head towards toddlerhood, you will know how loved you are. By each one of us, but most of all, by the Saviour who gave up everything for you.

There is no greater love than that!

We love you Anni-Beth!

Mama und Papa x
