For my Granny

In the early hours of yesterday morning, my Granny went to glory.

She was 91 years old, and had lived a full life.

One husband. Six children. Seventeen grandchildren. And as of this week, seven great-grandchildren.

But most importantly of all - one Saviour.

What hope that brings.

She was an amazing problem-solver, still beating us all at Scrabble and "Countdown" even in her old age. She loved to talk, and loved to have company. And she was generous - so generous. Probably the most generous woman I have ever known.

And she was ready to meet the Saviour. She was ready to go home

We are sad. We grieve and mourn because death feels wrong... Death IS wrong. It was not part of God's original design. And we miss her. But we smile through the tears, because we know that right now, she would not wish to be back with us. She is safe at home with Jesus.

Hallelujah.

‘Look! God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death” or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’ Revelation 21

  2. Thinking of the whole family at this time xx

    Sleep on, belovèd, sleep,
    and take thy rest;
    Lay down thy head
    upon the Savior’s breast;
    We love thee well,
    but Jesus loves thee best—
    Good night!
    Good night!
    Good night!

    Calm is thy slumber
    as an infant’s sleep;
    But thou shalt wake no more
    to toil and weep;
    Thine is a perfect rest,
    secure and deep—
    Good night!
    Good night!
    Good night!

    Until the shadows
    from this earth are cast,
    Until He gathers
    in His sheaves at last;
    Until the twilight gloom
    be over past—
    Good night!
    Good night!
    Good night!

    Until the Easter
    glory lights the skies,
    Until the dead in Jesus shall arise,
    And He shall come,
    but not in lowly guise—
    Good night!
    Good night!
    Good night!

    Until, made beautiful
    by love divine,
    Thou, in the likeness
    of thy Lord shalt shine,
    And He shall bring
    that golden crown of thine—
    Good night!
    Good night!
    Good night!

    Only “Good night,”
    belovèd—not “farewell!”
    A little while,
    and all His saints shall dwell
    In hallowed unison indivisible—
    Good night!
    Good night!
    Good night!

    Until we meet again
    before His throne,
    Clothed in the spotless robe
    He gives His own,
    Until we know
    even as we are known—
    Good night!
    Good night!
    Good night!

  12. Oh I am so very sorry. It's an odd sort of feeling isn't it, the certainty of salvation battling with the very human emotions of sorrow and loss. Take care all of you xx

  13. What an amazing woman and what a beautiful post. When great nanny died, granny read a poem about her playing leapfrog in heaven and it brought a smile to our faces imagining her doing that. Much love and prayers for you and all the family at this time. xxx
