A little trip in the car...

One of the lovely things about blogging is the ability to capture the very ordinary moments... the moments where nothing really actually happens, and yet the moments that make up the "everyday" that I know one day I'll want to look back and remember...

... like a regular trip in the car, for example.

This little girl loves to sing at the top of her lungs... she knows the entire soundtrack of the Sound of Music off by heart, and can sing pretty much every nursery rhyme under the sun. At the moment, she's loving "Bartimeus" and "Heidi" story CDs, and will chatter away any time there's a break. Sometimes, she reaches across for her baby sister's hand and they sit there, uncomfortably, with arms stretched round their car seats just because they're little friends and holding hands is just what they want to do.

At 1 yr, 3 months, this little lady just loves reading. Anything really - boardbooks, CD covers, the car manual... it doesn't really matter, as long as its something to look at, and something that has pages to turn. Sometimes she'll join in with the singing... she has a good go at the "Heidi" song too, and her yodelling is definitely worth hearing!

We're in a crazy season of life right now... we tried to meet up with friends recently, and realised we have no free weekends until September. That's mad. And in the chaos of everyday, sometimes the car offers a rare opportunity to actually just talk without distractions, without the pull of 101 jobs that need doing, without little people clambering over us... just to catch up and chat life.

A car journey. Just about the most ordinary moment you can get. But special, nonetheless.

    1. Oh dear! No! I can imagine that's not fun! Thankfully none of us get car-sick... it does put a dampener on a journey I can imagine!

  2. I love that she'll read the car manual as long as it's got pages - that sounds so familiar to my two - that and the singing, although at the moment it's mostly a strange concoction of songs from Frozen learnt from Kitty's nursery friends!

    1. ANYTHING that has pages will do, Carie! I think all little ones are the same on a car journey - books, books, books, books and a good story-CD or sing-along CD to accompany them!

    1. Ooh... my girls haven't really got into signs yet. They all go through little phases, don't they! I'm sure we have that fun still to come!

  4. That first photo is so cute- she looks deep in thought. Both my girls love road trips- we buy jelly babies and sing along to one direction very loudly! It always makes me smile though as they generally always fall asleep after about half an hour! x
