Packing up Christmas...

We packed away our Christmas decorations yesterday, and felt a little bit sad about it.

I do love the festive season.

But then I remembered that Christmas finished means a few weeks of winter, and then spring is coming. New life! And that new life always whispers Easter...

Hope. Joy. Excitement.

Those three things will carry us through these dark winter weeks. And so we grab hold of winter, this year, and seek to enjoy it, savour in it and make the most of it we can...

Gone are the stockings, the twinkling lights,
Gone are the cosy and christmassy nights,
Gone are the cinnamon cookies and treats
Gone are the carolers strolling the streets.

Gone are the parties, nativity scenes
Gone are the reds, golds, silvers and greens
Gone are the mangers, and stables and hay
The tinsel and holly are now packed away

But with all that is gone, one thing will stay
The Saviour who came down and lay in the hay
He came in the darkness to bring us the light
That burns through the deepest and darkest of nights

Though Christmas is gone, and the days are now cold
We will remember the story of old
That Jesus came, not just to be born
But to die, rise and promise new life to us all.

  6. Great poem. I'm always a little relieved when the decorations go away because I'm ready for the New Year and all the resolutions and hope. :)

  8. Lovely poem. The sadness of saying goodbye to the magic, only to realise that for many who believe the magic lives on. xx #Prose4T
