Little girl love

There is a lot of little girl love in this house at the moment. I am SO loving this stage. Ava has always been very sweet with her baby sister (most of the time!) but this past month, I've really begun to notice a shift in their relationship. They are becoming real little friends, and it warms my heart.

Of course, there are tricky times too. My big girl is having to realise that little sister is starting to have her own opinions about things. Sometimes that doesn't go down so great. If they both want the same beaker, or both want to play with the same toy, gone are the days where Heidi doesn't really care and will happily hand over...

But these are precious learning days for both girlies. They are learning to share. They are learning what it means to put someone else before themselves. It doesn't come naturally to any of us.

It definitely doesn't come naturally to toddlers.

And that's why, when I see them instinctively sharing, it warms my heart so much. It is the evidence that their little bond sometimes overrides their natural instinct... like when Ava asks Heidi whether she wants the orange plate, or the pink plate for breakfast. Or when Heidi passes Ava her much beloved "Hase". Those are the little moments that show me how deep the love between these two really runs.

And I know I have to savour it up. Because one day, when they're bickering over what channel to watch on the television, or having a whingey day about each other, or just winding each other up, I'll need to look back and remember that underneath it all, they really are the best of friends.

Precious little girl love.

Jesus replied "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbour as yourself' All the law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments"

  5. It's just the best thing ever when your children show a closeness and caring for each other, despite the expected niggles. It's one of life's great gifts and I'm lucky we have that sibling love here too.
