What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness?
- John Steinbeck -
I suppose you could say its my least favourite season... the long, dark nights, the post-Christmas crash back down to earth, the icy cold wind and the extra ten minutes it takes to get everybody out of the house with enough layers on...
But this year, I'm determined to enjoy it. To appreciate the details of January and February... to spot things to be thankful for, even when I can't feel my fingers.
Thankfulness. One of my New Years Resolutions.
You see, I read a quote recently that said,
"Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart"
My heart says winter is dark, and dull, and frosty and cold.
So I created a little seasonal love in our home; celebrating all things wintery, and embracing the icy colours of this particularly bleak season.
And something I am discovering I love about this season is the morning light. It is icy, and cold, but utterly glorious. It breaks into dark winter mornings and throws its ice-cold brilliance over whatever it hits.
It is crisp and cold and beautiful.
And it reminds me to be thankful.
Even in this little season that I was never so fond of...
A little revolution in my heart...
"Be joyful always, pray continually...
give thanks for everything, for this is God's will
for you who belong to Christ Jesus"
