Holiday Highlights...

So, I did it! Almost...

With the exception of one day, I actually managed to only post one picture a day. It was SO good to give myself a little break from blogging. Good to realise I don't HAVE to do it, that I, and the rest of the world, can survive without it, that its good to go cold turkey now and again and remember why it is I actually blog... My blog should serve my family, not the other way round!

So I thought I'd share a couple more pics now we're back, and tell you my top 5 highlights from the holiday!

Highlight #1: Being by the fjord...
This year we stayed in Dave's Aunt's cottage... it was so fabulous to be right down by the fjord. Ava set out every day to play with the stones out the front, or ride on the boat with her Papa, or go for a paddle with bucket in hand. The weather, in a typical Norwegian manner, was changeable, but it meant we could be out in the fjord in the sunshine, and be back in the cottage within seconds if the clouds started to look ominous. The other bonus of the cottage was that it had no wi-fi... no tweeting, facebooking or blogging for me. I had to go cold turkey, and boy was it good for us! We realised how much we look at our laptop/ipad/phones and are feeling a new determination to limit our time online!

Highlight #2: Visiting the goats...
I can honestly say I've never seen our little Ava so excited, so thrilled, so happy! She was totally in love with all the goats and couldn't get enough of them. The only tears we had were when we had to leave! She adored every second of it and it was so lovely to see her so happy!

Highlight #3: Time with family...
Singing with Mama, Rowing with Papa, giggling with sisters, flower-picking for Bestamor, walks with Bestafar, stories with Uncle, cuddles with Auntie, BBQs from Great Uncles, massages from Great Aunties, paddling with Second Cousins, fishing with Cousins once removed, compliments from Great Great Uncles... wow. These girlies were truly spoilt and had an absolute whale of a time!

We too enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with family... we spent countless hours talking, walking, grilling, fjord-swimming, fishing (yes! I caught 2 cod!), sitting and chatting and playing "bananagrams"... but that's a highlight of its own!

Highlight #4: Shopping...
I love Scandinavian Style... enough said. Check out this shop, and this one, and this one for my favourites... I could probably have bought out everything from those three shops alone!

Highlight #5: Bananagrams...
We had SO much fun with this one... hours and hours and hours of playing it over and over and over again. If you're looking for a quality, quick and fun game... this is it! A sort of cross between scrabble and boggle, it is the ultimate word game. Go buy it! Now! (And I'm not being sponsored for this post... I just think its that great!)

So those were my holiday highlights!

What is your favourite thing to do on holiday? What makes a holiday special for you?
