That funny old relationship...

Sisters. It's a funny old relationship, isn't it?

These two girlies really are the best of friends... they make each other laugh like nobody else, they follow each other round, they are fiercely protective of each other... and yet, this past week, I have begun to see the other side of that sisterly relationship creeping in. You know, the "I'm going to wind you up... and wind you up... and wind you up... until you lash out and then we'll both be in trouble"... they tease each other, annoy each other, bundle each other... the list goes on...

And yet, when you have your two-year-old on the step, and you're asking her why she did whatever she did to her little sister, she'll look up at you with forlorn eyes and say; "I don't know... because I do love her..."

And then little sister will come out, and big sister will be told to apologise at which point that chubby little arm pulls her big sister into a hug too and says "'Tschuldigung" even when she hasn't done anything wrong... and big sister giggles and says "Oh Heidi... you're so funny... YOU don't have to say sorry" and your heart kind of melts and you wonder how 5 minutes ago you were pulling your hair out at the screeching and tale-telling...

I guess that's what sisters are all about, right? The bickering, the tale-telling, the sorry-saying and the reuniting-hugs... and then all is well again, and they return to playing beautifully together, and you return to the dinner you were making...

Until, of course, five minutes later, the whole cycle starts again...!

* Sigh *

    1. Oh Suzanne... I'm sure mine will be there soon enough! Though I have to admit, I'm not rushing that stage at all. My sister and I fought like crazy, but we really are the best of friends now... it will all come right in the end :D

  2. Lovely post, and so true. I have a brother, and similarly we were always bickering and actually physically fighting. My mum despaired, but really we got on well and still do...although we're still competitive with each other.

    1. My sister and I are just the same now too, although we used to fight like crazy. Funny how these things seem to work themselves out as you grow up!

  4. Ahhh bless the world of sibling love and fight relationship. I know it too well now with a 1 and a 2 1/2 year old. lol So sweet she says sorry with a hug. I have to force sorry in this house but sometimes it does come willingly and it makes my heart melt. Love the photo of them too. So precious. Thanks for linking up to Share With Me. #sharewithme

    1. My two are exactly the same age apart as yours... 18 months between them! The sorry often does take a little encouragement from the older one!

  5. Such a lovely post. My girls have a bigger age gap so the elder is equally smitten and frustrated with her little sister. Some days I consider opening my own fight club, other days it's sweetness and light. It certainly keeps you on your toes x #sharewithme

    1. The joys of siblings, isn't it?! It seems to always be one of the two extremes!

  6. Now why does that sound oh so very familiar!! Bless them all, it's definitely an age thing and a sister thing; but perhaps that's the joy of being sisters, you can push a few buttons in the confident security of always being loved and cuddled; they're the sounding board for what the rest of the world will walk away from!

    1. So very true! There is something about sisters which gives the security of knowing they will still be loved, regardless of how mean/annoying they are! Sigh... I imagine I've still got a good few years of it ahead!
