Through Her Eyes... Ordinary Moments

I guess its inevitable that when Mama's camera sits on the sideboard to be whipped out a few times every day, a four-year-old is going to be a little intrigued by it. Photography is a hobby I've grown to love this past couple of years... just capturing those little moments that would otherwise be missed... and it seems its a love I've passed on to my eldest too.

When we were in Norway last summer, she asked on a few occasions if she could take a photo on my big camera.... I was loathe to let her (this thing is not cheap!) but at the same time, didn't want to discourage her interest. And so we made a deal. One photo. Strap round her neck. Two hands. And that would be the end of it.

And this was the photo she took.

I was pretty impressed. She was still only two at the time, and had managed to get it centred(-ish) and was so careful with it. And so when her third birthday rolled around a month later, my brother and sister teamed up to get her her own little camera...

She has loved her little camera... it has accompanied her on trips to the farm, and a few outings. But mainly she's used it just as her Mama does... capturing those ordinary moments, and I've found it fascinating to flick through and see life through the eyes of a four year old.

She's had her little camera well over a year now, but only last night did I sit down and upload all her photos onto the laptop... and it was such a delight to discover all that she's been recording.

Some are a little blurry, but these are a selection of Ava's photos taken over the past year, unedited (aside from the watermark) - she did the black and white filters herself on the camera. And I just love the insight they give me into her little world...

I thought you might like a look too...

Enjoy!

Its been so much fun to get a little window into her world... To see what she sees, at her height... And what she views as important enough to document.

Ava M... I'm so proud of you!

  2. Awww those wee cameras are great! What good photos. We got Oscar one which Dominic now happily clicks away with. I have a few folders of the photos in laptop too. So funny. Love looking through them. Oscar tends to take a lot of photos on my phone too, especially if Patrick's hands and arms are weak and he can't take photo. It's so cool to see what they come up with. The selfies are so funny too. At our wedding We put out ten disposable cameras for the evening time, wow photos so funny! The children loved taking the cameras and clicking away. X
