Starting School // The Ordinary Moments

We did it! We made it through Friday... and she loved it!

As she flew out of school at midday, one plait still intact, one side of her hair flying loose, she called out to me...

"Mama it was super! And I made a lovely new friend!"

This whole starting school thing has been an eventful journey, and my biggest worry for her, as we walked through those school gates on Friday morning, was that she didn't really know anyone in her class at all. As I walked away, I had visions of her playing on her own... my heart felt heavy when I thought of her little friendship group she had left behind in Nursery School, and though I held it together until I was back out of the school gates, my eyes streamed all the way home. I had just left my little girl with strangers, in a room full of little people she didn't know. Playing alone at the craft table.

But I should have had more faith in my little lady.

When I picked her up at 12 o'clock, her eyes were bright, her cheeks flushed, and her little face beaming. She chattered away all the way home, introducing me to her little friend, and then telling me all they had done - playing together, sorting some wooden blocks, eating carrots (her favourite!), following some big boys round the trim trail... She was enthusiastic and brimming with it all and all that worry and weight just dropped off.

Yes, I will miss her. But she is so ready for this...

Even if I can't be there, I'm excited to hear all about the adventure!
